Billed as a distortion pedal which delivers anything from sweet singing overdrive to massive distortion crunch, this box is versatile enough to cope with any style of playing, yet will not cloud your guitars personality.

As with all MXR pedals the MXR Distortion III is constructed within a heavy duty enclosure, with a good quality switch and jack sockets for lifetime use.

With its carefully selected components and propriety electronic design, the MXR Overdrive pedal is a quite pedal which delivers rich harmonic tones. As stated the MXR is a quite pedal that only produces much in the way of noise until the Gain is cranked right up.

Speaking of Gain, the range of this control produces anything from light distortion to modern Metal. However, even when maxed out, the notes still retain their clarity.

The Emma ReezaFRATzitz Overdrive and Distortion pedal is a Danish made Effects Pedal which is a well constructed unit having a good quality switch, and smooth feeling controls.

This is a second generation Reeza  pedal which has had low and high frequency controls added, to further enable you to fine-tune your effects

This stomp box certainly has the type of name that you have to repeat a few times, to get your head round it. However, despite its handle, the ReezaFRATzitz is an excellent quality overdrive and distortion pedal which stands out from the crowd. Offering an incredible full bodied crunch, this Pedal emulates the overdrive distortion effects of a real Tube Amp.

The Pedal comes with five controls – Level, Low, High, Gain and Bias. On low levels, the box produces some nice plexi tones. However, for great sounding Metal, crank up that Level control and prepare to be blown away.  Low and High controls are fairly explanatory, enabling control over the treble and bass.

Probably the secret of the incredible tonal quality of the pedal is the Bias control. Emma reports that this allows the user to change or ‘morph’ between Class A and Class B biasing. The resulting harmonic change of the signal provides a wider variation of ‘tones’ found on your normal distortion.

Class A mode provides a sweet saturation found with the Vox AC30. For Class B, turn the control clockwise to achieve the thick chunky sounds of a Fender or Marshal. Altering the control over these two modes, enable the user to produce a wide variety of tonal options.

Boss SD1 Super Overdrive

The Boss Super Overdrive SD1 is an extremely simple to use Guitar Effects Pedal which provides you with the smooth, warm distortion of an overdriven tube amp. All this is achieved without overriding the subtleties of your playing technique.

As described, the Boss SD1 is simple to use and only has three controls, affecting Level, Tone and Drive. This enables the Guitarist to easily go from mild to hard – the Sd1 can even be used as a signal booster if required.

Boss boasts that the SD1 delivers its rich authentic overdrive effects due to its unique symmetric drive circuitry. Whatever the reason, the Boss super overdrive Sd1 delivers warm  solid rock sounds, and can even be used playing the blues. Though this pedal is probably not going to be a great Metal or heavy distortion producer, a great variety of sounds and can be achieved when used in conjunction with the amp distortion of your amplifier.

Physically, the construction of the pedal is rock solid; some even refer to it being built like a tank. The case has rubber on the button to help prevent it from moving about, and also has rubber on the pedals part. Many performers who had had the SD1 for a number of years rate the pedal as extremely rugged and reliable.

It’s a me, Mario! Haha, I dressed up as Mario for Halloween (much to my kids’ and the others in the neighborhood’s delight), and thought it would be fun to put the costume to more use. I hope you enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed putting it together. All of the video AND audio effects were done using Sony Vegas. The guitar tone for the Mario theme was originally a straight clean tone from my Peavey JSX amp, and I used Vegas to add the effects – in addition to adding a little reverb, chorus and delay, I used the software’s pitch-shifter to duplicate the notes one octave down, and I also used the noise gate as somewhat of a limiter which makes the the notes on the high strings sound almost synth like. For the star power section, I also added some wah wah manually and then added flange/phase/delay/reverb with Vegas. As for the “freak out” section where I rock out, it’s the Ultra channel on the JSX. For that solo, I of course used a wah pedal. Finally for the outro of the video where you hear the very low bass notes, that was again played on the guitar using Vegas’s pitch-shifting effect to shift the notes down one octave, but in that section I cut out the normal notes so you only hear the lower octave.
